Picture emerges of Dublin victim gunned down on mother's doorstep by masked hitman as funeral details announced

A picture of a Dublin victim who was shot on his mother's doorstep by a masked hitman last week has emerged as his funeral details have been announced.

Thomas McCarthy was shot up to eight times after answering the door of the house in Ballyfermot, Dublin, to a lone, masked hitman on Monday.

The dad and granddad was not involved in crime and was targeted after being dragged into a personal dispute, it is believed.

His funeral details reads: "The death has occurred of the late Thomas McCarthy (27th July 2020). Suddenly.

"Sadly missed by his loving Wife Nia, his loving sons Dylan, Landen and Eoghan, only daughter Stacey, grandchildren Hayden and baby Hunter, his loving mother Pauline, only sister Caroline, three brothers David, Darren, Kenneth."

A small private funeral will take place for Thomas in accordance with Government guidelines.

Thomas had only returned to his family home in Croftwood Park a week before the brutal murder.

He had been living in Southend on Sea in England where he had raised a family.

On his visit home it’s believed he became embroiled in a dispute involving someone he knew who was assaulted by a violent local criminal.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have any information about the case to contact them on 01 666 7200, or call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
