Picture at Dumfries and Galloway beauty spot lands top award for photographer

A picture taken at a Stewartry beauty spot has landed a photographer a top award.

Allan Wright’s Piscean Reeds photo taken at Woodhall Loch near Laurieston won the natural abstract category in the Scottish Nature Photography Awards.

Allan, who used to live in Parton but is now based in Peebles, said: “I was truly elated to hear this result. I had always thought the serendipitous arrangement of reeds resembling Pisces symbols and hieroglyphics in crisp January light was special.

“I had recently, if rather boldly, printed this image at size A0 (120x85 cm) and realised it had an impact more powerful in the flesh than it ever was viewed at screen size.

“I have found that in shooting abstract material that actually works in a ‘gallery’ context is actually quite a rare event and so I regard this successful capture as a real prize.”
