Picnik Entertainment Acquires U.K. Distribution Rights For 'The Almond And The Seahorse'

The Almond And The Seahorse

Picnik Entertainment has secured the U.K. distribution rights for the film 'The Almond and the Seahorse,' featuring Rebel Wilson and Charlotte Gainsbourg in lead roles. The movie, based on Kaite O'Reilly's play, boasts a talented ensemble cast including Trine Dyrholm, Celyn Jones, Meera Syal, Ruth Madeley, and Alice Lowe.

The Almond and the Seahorse refer to parts of the human brain responsible for memory formation and retention, which can be altered after a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The storyline revolves around characters dealing with emotional challenges stemming from heartbreak rather than brain damage.

The film is co-written by Celyn Jones and Kaite O'Reilly, with Jones and Tom Stern making their directorial debut. Produced by Mad as Birds Films, the project received financial backing from various sources including Picnik Entertainment, Creative Wales, and Ffilm Cymru Wales.

Rebel Wilson expressed pride in the film's exploration of TBI and her departure from mainstream comedy roles. Nicola Pearcey, founder of Picnik Entertainment, commended Wilson's dramatic performance alongside the stellar cast. Celyn Jones highlighted the universal themes of love, survival, and memory fragility portrayed in the film.

'The Almond and the Seahorse' has already garnered acclaim, winning the jury prize at the Dinard British Film Festival. The movie is set for a U.K. theatrical release on May 10, promising audiences a blend of humor and poignant storytelling.
