Police have warned those visiting Edinburgh city centre to be on the lookout for pickpockets after valuables were stolen at the weekend.
There were two incidents in the early hours of Sunday, November 17 where items were taken from unsuspecting victims.
During the first incident a man was walking in St Andrew Square when the suspects distracted him before stealing his wallet.
A short time later the same people distracted a couple on Princes Street and were able to make off with a man's Rolex watch, worth £12,000.
Both thefts occurred between 1.45am and 2am on Sunday, November 17.
Detectives say the opportunistic pickpockets will often distract their victims before going for valuable items.
Inspector David Brady said: "When we launched Operation Winter City on Friday, we were keen to highlight that opportunistic criminals would be operating in the city centre area and this has proven the case, with two pick-pocketing reports having now been recorded.
"Please be wary of anyone getting too close to your personal space or attempting any form of distraction, as they may be looking to steal your belongings.
"It is also important to remember and keep hold of your possessions at all times and do not have any items of value out on display.
