Pick-six brings Packers LB Ty Summers one step closer to roster

Taking an interception back 74 yards for a touchdown shouldn’t hurt Ty Summers’ chances of making the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster.

The rookie linebacker caught a fluttering pass from Chiefs quarterback Kyle Shurmur and raced down the near sideline for the Packers’ first touchdown of Thursday night’s preseason finale.

Markus Jones’ pressure and hit on Shurmur caused the errant pass. Summers was in the right place at the right time, and his impressive speed made for an easy jaunt into the end zone.

The Packers’ seventh-round pick is closing in on a roster spot. In fact, injuries at inside linebacker could provide Summers with a chance to play early in the season while Oren Burks recovers from a partial pectoral tear.
