Pieta’s Concert of Hope

A host of our biggest musical stars got together – remotely – on Saturday to perform and raise money for a great cause. Acts included Aslan’s Christy Dignam,  Walking on Cars, Hermitage Green, Brian Kennedy, The Saw Doctors, and many more.

Post Malone

US rapper Post Malone got together with guests including Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker for a full set of Nirvana covers – live and loud. The gig was in aid of the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO.

Tallaght poet Stephen James Smith put in a 40-minute performance on Thursday to mark Poetry Day Ireland.

Christine and the Queens

No seat or acoustic guitar for Héloïse Letissier aka Christine and the Queens – she did a full-body, energetic performance from home for Minnesota radio show The Current.

Metallica

This week’s #MetallicaMondays upload took Metallica fans way back to Muskegon, Michigan in 1991, when the Black Album was brand new and they all had a lot more hair.

Northern Irish singer-songwriter Joshua Burnside has been a prolific live-streamer during the covid crisis – yesterday afternoon he played for half an hour in support of Culture Ireland.

Questlove plays Beastie Boys

It’s been another busy week for The Roots drummer and DJ Questlove, who used his Saturday show to pay tribute to the Beastie Boys in honour of the new Spike Jonze-directed documentary. The entire show is unavailable but here’s a 40-minute taster that mixes up classic and obscure Beasties tunes with some of their sample sources.

Ariana Grande was one of the guest stars at this virtual version of a regular concert that normally takes place in New York every month. The pop superstar performed the song Still Hurting from the musical The Last 5 Years.

Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim turned 90 recently, so an impressive list of stars celebrated with performances of his work. Look out for appearances from Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda, and actors Meryl Streep and Neil Patrick Harris.
