CIRCUS

Circus Extreme at Royal Hospital Kilmainham (Thursday to September 15)

Expect some hair-raising antics as Circus Extreme comes to town this weekend. As well as the trapeze artists, acrobats and clowns you might normally expect from a circus, fans will also be treated to the noise and spectacle of stunt motorbike riders performing the heart-stopping Globe Of Death. Strap in! 

CINEMA

IT Chapter Two out on Friday

Horror fans, there's only one hot ticket this weekend - the much anticipated follow-up to the 2017 reboot of Stephen King's shocker. Trying to evade the clutches of evil clown Pennywise this time will be James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader.

FESTIVAL

The Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival in Donabate and Portrane (until September 15)

This arts festival was started by local residents to bring arts and culture to the Donabate/Portrane peninsula in north county Dublin. Highlights include trad music concerts, craft workshops, photography exhibitions and much more.

mclusky* at the Workmans Club (Saturday)

Cardiff band mclusky recently reformed after 15 years with a slightly altered line-up (hence the asterisk) but the same arsenal of caustic, witty, noise-rock anthems. This will be a very special show. Support from Junk Drawer and Slouch.

The countdown to Japan is nearly over - the Irish team plays its final World Cup warm-up match on Saturday afternoon against Wales, who they defeated 22-17 in Cardiff just last weekend. This is your final chance to see the lads in action and wish them well for what lies ahead.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Music in Monkstown at Monkstown Parish Church (Thursday to Sunday)

Monkstown Parish Church will be the setting for a weekend of concerts from some of the world's finest musicians, such as the Sacconi String Quartet, Hugh Tinney and flautist Amy Gillen. The festival is curated by John Finucane, principal clarinetist of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and a Monkstown resident.

CLUB

Alienata at Wigwam (Saturday)

The Lepton crew bring Spanish-born, Berlin-based DJ Alienata to the dark and sweaty Wigwam basement for a night of electro, acid, breaks and techno. Support is from Patient 808 and EMA.

FAMILY

There's fun for all the family as you roll up, roll up for the annual Cabinteely Carnival this Sunday afternoon. This free family event will star Hillario Spillaci the silent clown, circus skills performers, bouncy castles, face-painters and lots more.

THEATRE

Pultizer-prize winning playwright Paul Muldoon has a new show, and it's a one-man performance starring Dublin's own Stanley Townsend. In a dynamic show, Incantata tells the story of a man celebrating and remembering a great love affair.
