Piccadilly station in Manchester city centre was evacuated after 'smoke was seen coming from a bar'.
Passengers filed out of the station at around 1.15pm. Everyone was allowed back in by around 1.30pm.
Photos and videos flooded social media following the incndet.
Jordan White tweeted: "Come to catch a train and got evacuated from Manchester Piccadilly station, what’s going on, a lot of police too."
Carol Lowe posted: "Piccadilly station in Manchester evacuated after fire alarm. Not thought to be a serious incident but station is being checked."
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "We were called at 1.13pm following a sound of the alarm. Smoke has been spotted coming from one of the bars within the station. The station has since been given the all clear."
Manchester Piccadilly tweeted: "The station fire alarm was activated due to smoke in a retail unit and the station was evacuated as a result. "All staff worked together to safely evacuate and the station is now open as normal.
"Please speak to staff regarding your service whilst services recover."
National Rail posted on Twitter, saying trains may be 'cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised' until around 2.30pm.
