Piccadilly Gardens drug dealer 'caught hiding illicit goods in frame of bike'

A man dealing drugs in Piccadilly Gardens tried to hide his illicit goods in the frame of a bike, police said.

Officers spotted the alleged crook in Manchester's infamous public square at around 2pm on Wednesday.

In a tweet, the Greater Manchester Police city centre team said the man was 'seen to poke things into the frame, thinking it was a cracking hiding place.'

"Good news for him, we've managed to recover all his drugs, unfortunately we had to take a cut!" officers added.

A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A and class B drugs with intent to supply.

He has since been released under investigation.

Police have been busy in Piccadilly Gardens in recent months as the lifting of coronavirus restrictions has seen footfall return to more normal levels.

On Tuesday night, around 20 people were involved in a 'disturbance' which left a man in hospital with a head injury.

And last weekend a woman was injured after being attacked with a glass bottle.

Earlier this month, a 38-year-old man was left in a critical condition following a mass brawl in the Gardens.

On May 27, three men were stabbed in incidents in High Street, Market Street, and near Piccadilly Gardens.

Aaround 20 people were involved in a mass brawl in Piccadilly Gardens in April - including some thought to be armed with knives.
