Physical medicine specialist discusses Steelers QB Mason Rudolph’s injury

It was a scary moment for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph on Sunday. Rudolph took a nasty hit from Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas which knocked him unconscious and was left with a concussion. If you have ever suffered a concussion you know how Rudolph felt but in watching the play you might not fully understand why things happened the way they did.

Enter Dr. Brian Sutterer. He is a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and he also has an incredibly informative YouTube channel where he offers his expert medical opinion on sports injuries.

Sutterer does a great job breaking down the concept of posturing in relation to Rudolph’s injury and how it relates to where the trauma took place in Rudolph’s brain. He also debunks the notion Rudolph didn’t need a medical cart to leave the field.
