Heavy downpours triggered flash floods, landslides and flight delays in Phuket yesterday, while more torrential rain is forecast for several other parts of the country over the next 24 hours.

Numerous areas of the resort island were ravaged by flash floods.

Authorities deployed flood-relief teams equipped with water pumps in the inundated areas including Ra Wai, Pa Tong, Si Sunthon and Pa Khlok.

Phet Chancharoen, the director of Phuket airport, said at least 10 flights were delayed yesterday morning because of poor visibility at the airport.

According to information provided by Patong police station in Muang district, a section of Phra Metta Road between Patong Hospital intersection and Talat Ban San intersection became impassable yesterday morning, resulting in severe congestion in the surrounding areas. A section of Ratuthit Songroipi Road was also impassable to small cars.

At press time last night, the floods in Phuket had begun to recede.
