Phuc Dat Bich, the Australian man of Vietnamese origin whose name caused a row with Facebook after they repeatedly shut his account down, has said he is "honoured" after his story was shared so widely.

Irritated that nobody believed his full legal name, he posted a picture of his passport online as proof of identity.

Phuc Dat Bich posted a picture of his passport as proof of identity after Facebook repeatedly banned his account.

Thousands of people left encouraging messages on the post, which has now received more than 162,000 likes.

After his story made headlines around the world, he has posted another message to Facebook saying he was "grateful to those who have been supportive of certain names that populate in different cultures".

He went on to write: "We live in a diverse and multicultural society and the fact that there are people out there who are supportive and encouraging really makes me happy."

"I've never ranted nor wept that my post would get this sort of exposure. But I am glad and honoured to be able to make people happy by simply making them laugh at something that appears outrageous and ridiculous."

He added: "Much tragic events have happened all over the world, out of it all only happiness can mend.

"As an individual I hope I have played a part in brightening your days!"
