Phu Thap Boek in Phetchabun flooded with tourists

Traffic is heavy in both directions on Phu Thap Boek in Lom Kao district in Phetchabun after tourists flocked to the mountain on Sunday.

PHETCHABUN: A large number of tourists have flocked to Phu Thap Boek in Lam Kao district of this northern province to spend the weekend enjoying this area's natural beauty.

About 11,000 tourists in more than 2,700 vehicles set off up the mountain along a two-lane road to Phu Thap Boek on Saturday. As a result, all resorts were fully booked and tents for rent were in high demand.

The visitors appeared delighted by the night-time temperature of about 14 degrees Celcius, followed by the beautiful sunrise in the morning.

On Sunday morning, the entire stretch of the five-kilometre road to Phu Thap Boek was heavily congested with vehicles. While many tourists were returning home, many others were on the way up. Since Dec 5 is a holiday, they are taking Monday off to make it a long weekend.

Local people have called for concerned agencies to widen the road to cater for the growing numbers of tourists.
