Photos show six-year-old girl's injuries after being 'pulled under' Peloton treadmill

A dad has shared photos of his six-year-old daughter's painful injuries after he says she was dragged under a Peloton treadmill.

Jocelyn Ratcliffe was left with a badly scraped, reddened and bruised leg after the Tread+ pulled her underneath feet first.

It comes after the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) warned people to keep kids and pets away from the £3,000 Tread+, releasing a video of a boy being dragged under one.

Speaking about his daughter's ordeal yesterday, Brandon Ratcliffe told ABC-TV's Good Morning America: "It was pretty traumatic.

"She fell, and the treadmill pulled her leg underneath it."

Regulators said over the weekend it was important they "warn the public quickly of the hazard" after 39 reported incidents of children being "entrapped, pinned, and pulled under the rear roller".

The investigation into the death of one victim is ongoing.

"It is believed that at least one incident occurred while a parent was running on the treadmill, suggesting that the hazard cannot be avoided simply by locking the device when not in use," the commission said in a statement.

"Reports of a pet and objects being sucked beneath the Tread+ also suggest possible harm to the user if the user loses balance as a result."

The treadmill poses "serious risks to children for abrasions, fractures, and death", it added.

USCPSC director Joe Martyak told Good Morning America: "A lot of injuries happen with treadmills, but not like this."

Since 2019, the commission has received 22,5000 reports of injuries following incidents involving various types of treadmill.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission released a video of a child being pulled under the machine (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission)

It had issued an administrative subpoena requiring Peloton to name the child with family contact information within 24 hours so investigations could continue, Washington Post reported last week.

Peloton company spokeswoman Jessica Kleiman told the newspaper it would not provide the information out of respect for the family's privacy.

The firm's profits are up more than 240 percent since the start of the pandemic, but its shared price has continued to drop since reports of the death in March.

Peloton said the USCPSC warning is "inaccurate and misleading", reiterating that the treadmill is safe as long as instructions are followed.

It said the machine is not for children under 16, adding: "Like all motorized exercise equipment, the Tread+ can pose hazards if the warnings and safety instructions are not followed."
