Photos show progress of former Edinburgh clinic being transformed into flats

Progress on the former Clermiston Clinic that is due to be turned into a business space as well as 18 residential properties.

Construction workers using heavy machinery could be seen taking apart the walls of the former medical building for work to begin on the site that is situated at 7 Rannoch Terrace.

They were hard at work as they knocked down the East facing elements of the former clinic.

Rubble and debris could be seen strewn across the site as it is about to be transformed into a residential and business setting.

The proposed development will include a Business Use (Class 2 / 3 or 4) on the ground floor along with 18 residential apartments with associated amenity space above.

The new homes would look over the iconic Clermiston Inn as well as the local Scotmid store and Drumbrae Hub to the rear.

Those behind the plans will look to implement a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments that will sit above the unknown business on the bottom floor.

There will also be associated plant and ancillary spaces including a cycle and bin store located at the ground level.

A deck will also be fitted over the retail space that would provide room for a shared garden that residents could enjoy.

The plans for the site. (AMA.)

Planners say that the prefabricated building on the site was in such poor condition that it had to be destroyed and that it was not compatible with the proposed brief.

They add that the building will address the adjacent streets and that front doors and building entrances will be located so as to bring activity to Rannoch Terrace and Rannoch Road.

The proposal will also look to reinforce the urban edges of the site to provide good containment to the streets.
