Photos show extent of damage caused by Southville house fire

A bedroom has been destroyed by a fire in south Bristol today (September 26) which led to four people being taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to a blaze on Stackpool Road, Southville, this morning.

Pictures have been posted on social media revealing the extent of the damage.

Most of a first-floor bedroom appears to have been reduced to charred remains.

The interior images were captured by Temple Fire Station, who published them on Twitter. The station also reminded residents why they should keep fire doors shut, with other rooms in the property largely unaffected.

In a statement, the fire service reported that crews from Temple and Bedminster stations attended the three-floor building, using two jets to extinguish the fire.

One person was rescued by the fire service, two were rescued prior to their arrival, and four were evacuated.

Four casualties were conveyed to hospital by ambulance crews, while three more were discharged at the scene.

The fire service believes the blaze was started accidentally by a cigarette.

We will post the latest updates on the fire in our live blog.
