Photos show devastating damage after fire breaks out at Horden chip shop

This is the damage left behind after a huge fire took hold in a County Durham chip shop.

Flames ripped through the ground floor shop leaving devastating damage to Yoden Fisheries on Sunderland Road, Horden.

The blaze was first reported to County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service at around 11am on Thursday.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene and firefighters from Seaham and Peterlee fire stations spent an hour extinguishing the blaze.

Pictures inside the shop show major fire damage at the counter of the chippy. The fire service confirmed that no-one had been injured.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that they were not called to the fire.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Reports of a fire in a ground floor shop on Sunderland Road, Peterlee came into CDDFRS control at 11am this morning (Thursday, April 22).

"Two crews from Peterlee and Seaham attended to extinguish the fire.

"Fortunately no-one was injured and the crews left the scene just after 12 noon."
