Photos of terror suspect's father with Congress leaders go viral in Karnataka; BJP demands action

MANGALURU: A day after National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested terror suspect Reshaan Thajuddin Sheikh from Varamballi, in Brahmavar, Udupi, photos of the suspect’s father with Congress leaders are going viral.

Photos of Thajuddin Sheikh, father of the terror suspect, posing with Congress leaders Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar and UT Khader have gone viral. Meanwhile, BJP leaders took Congress to task linking the arrest of Reshaan and his father’s position in the opposition party. BJP leaders say that since Thajuddin is the general secretary of the Congress Brahmavar block committee, the party should take action against him.

Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat told reporters that the Congress needs to clarify as the son of a party leader was arrested in connection with a terror link.

"Let the Congress expel him (Thajuddin) from the party. They cannot run away from the responsibilities by saying that the Congress has no connection with him. I have already released photos to the media to prove that he is the block Congress president," he said seeking explanation from the KPCC.

Further, the MLA also demanded that an inquiry needs to be conducted on the family of Thajuddin. "I had pointed out about apprehensions when the hijab issue was triggered in the coastal region. The investigation into the cooker blast case of Mangaluru has led to this arrest. There are chances of more such revelations during an all-inclusive investigation. Hence, the NIA needs to conduct an in-depth investigation in the coastal region," he added.

Udupi District Congress Committee president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor said that he has sought a report from the Congress Brahmavar block committee.
