Photos of smiling Princess Charlotte released to mark fourth-in-line's fourth birthday

The princess was photographed last month.

She's the fourth in line to the throne and today Princess Charlotte celebrates her fourth birthday, an occasion marked with the release of new photos by Kensington Palace.

In what is becoming somewhat of a birthday tradition, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared three new photographs of their daughter, taken by Catherine herself.

The images were captured in April at Kensington Palace and the family's home in Norfolk.

In one of the photos, Princess Charlotte poses in a blue floral dress with sneakers.

The other two photos show her happily playing outdoors in a grey sweater and tartan skirt.

Just last week, Kensington Palace shared similar portrait shots of her younger brother, Prince Louis, for his first birthday.

What about Prince George?

We will likely have to wait until July 22 when the Prince celebrates his sixth birthday.

We expect the Royals will keep with the tradition of taking a series of birthday portraits, or we could see something similar to Charlotte's birthday photos last year when she shared the spotlight with her younger brother.

By then, the world should have already been introduced to the first-born child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
