Photographs show huge fire in Speedwell as 70 firefighters tackle blaze

At least 70 firefighters are currently tackling one of the biggest fires to erupt in Bristol this year.

Black smoke can be seen billowing out across following the blaze at Speedwell's Strachan and Henshaw Building, based on Foundry Lane.

A specialist environmental and decontamination  team are at the scene in case the workshop, where the flames broke out, contains hazardous materials.

Firefighters have been ferried in from neighbouring counties to tackle the blaze

Crews are working with police, Bristol city council and Bristol Water to resolve the incident.

Group manager for Avon Fire and Rescue Steve Quinton said ten appliances were tackling the flames.

"We urge motorists to avoid the area," said Mr Quinton. "People should keep their windows and doors closed.

"We still don't know if there are any hazardous materials inside. So far we have only found normal workshop materials."

The fire first broke out around 6:45pm, today (May 3).

Scores of residents have been sending in their photographs of the blaze which you can view in our gallery below.
