Super Typhoon Bavi, one of the strongest storms of the year, tore through the US Pacific territories of the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam on Monday, leaving reports of "major damage".

The National Weather Service (NWS) said the eye of the storm passed directly over Rota, bringing winds of up to 180 mph (290 kmph), cites AFP.
