Police seized 50 stolen phones in a raid on a shop in Strangeways - now they're trying to trace the owners

Police have seized more than 50 stolen mobiles phones after raiding a shop in Strangeways.

Now they're trying to reunite them with the owners.

GMP Manchester North posted details and a picture of the haul on Facebook.

And they said shops such as the one raided are providing a place for criminals such as moped robbers to offload their stolen wares.

The post said: "Top job, our team have been and out raided a phone shop in Strangeways who has been dealing in stolen phones.

"50+ phones recovered and we are working our way through them to identify owners.

"Such an important job as this is what causes crime such as moped riding robberies.

"We will continue to target such places."

Strangeways, dubbed the counterfeit capital of Europe, is a well-known destination for shops selling dodgy products.

In March police seized £250,000-worth of counterfeit designer goods when they raided shops on Harris Street in Strangeways.

And last December a huge hoard of fake jewellery, handbags, clothing and footwear was found in eight lock-ups on Great Ducie Street.

It included counterfeit Chanel, Michael Kors, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo, Ted Baker, Mulberry and Prada handbags, fake Rolex watches and Cartier jewellery and dodgy North Face jackets, Hugo Boss and Armani tops and Nike trainers..
