Phone helps police solve burglary

CHENNAI: An abandoned mobile phone left behind by burglars helped police solve a burglary at Perambur. Police arrested two and seized 20 sovereigns of gold from the two.

Police said burglars broke open the house of costume designer Rajkumar, 40, on Bharathi Salai in Perambur when the occupants were away.

When he came back, Rajkumar found his front door lock tampered with. As he entered the house to check out the valuables, a suspect hiding inside pushed him down and fled. The man escaped on a bike along with another suspect waiting outside.

Rajkumare lodged a formal complaint. A police team visited the house and recovered a mobile phone apparently belonging to one of the suspects. Police tracked and nabbed Vadivel Pandian, 31, and later apprehended his accomplice Sahul Hameed, 22, from a hide out. Police seized the stolen gold from them.
