Phoebe Waller-Bridge is returning to hit show Fleabag for New York run

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s award-winning play Fleabag is set to make waves across the pond with a run off-Broadway next year.

Waller-Bridge returns to perform in her New York debut at the SoHo Playhouse, directed by long-time collaborator Vicky Jones, from February 28-March 7.

Many will know Fleabag from the 2016 BBC adaptation, which won Waller-Bridge a BAFTA. A second season is set to come in 2019.

It follows the life of a young woman through sex, self-obsession and emotional ups and downs, as her friendships, family relationships and business come under strain and she finds herself with nothing to lose.

The play originally premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013, going on to run twice at the Soho Theatre and tour in the UK and Australia, latterly with Maddie Rice in the main role.

Waller-Bridge said of the transfer: “I can’t wait to bring the original Fleabag to New York! It’s a dream come true. This is going to be so much fun.”

The writer and performer turned her hand to a new project this year, with the hugely popular Killing Eve starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, currently in production for its second season.

Waller-Bridge will be presenting the Evening Standard Theatre Awards this weekend (November 18) in a ceremony at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
