Phoebe Waller-Bridge: Fleabag star has 'fantasy' of bringing back show when she turns 50

Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge has reportedly admitted she has a fantasy about reviving the show when she turns 50 – immediately after ruling out a third season.

The writer and actor was speaking at an Amazon event ahead of this year’s Emmy Awards, where Fleabag season 2 has 11 nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Best Lead Actress (Waller-Bridge) and two for Best Supporting Actress (Sian Clifford and Olivia Colman).

AFP reporter Andrew Marszal reported Waller-Bridge’s comments, tweeting: “I have a fantasy of bringing Fleabag back when I’m 50” says #phoebewallerbridge (straight after ruling out season 3). #fleabag #amazon #emmys #hotpriest.”

Fleabag’s second series received critical acclaim, with praise for the writing and performances by its lead cast.

Cifford, who plays Fleabag’s neurotic sister Claire, was the first to reveal there would not be a third series, telling BBC Breakfast that the story was “complete”.

“I’ve described it online as this beautiful perfect ending, and I think it is but I think what it’s closer to is poetry,” she said.

“I think people will accept this is the end when they see it, because I think it is complete. I think the story is complete.”

Waller-Bridge is touring Fleabag on stage for the final time at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London from 20 August to 14 September. She is currently working on the script for the new 007 film (Bond 25), which stars Daniel Craig and Rami Malek.
