Phoebe Waller-Bridge confirms Fleabag will never return: 'We have to let her go, she's exhausted'

Phoebe Waller-Bridge has confirmed that Fleabag will never be returning.

Speaking to The Mirror, the actor and writer said, “I think we have to let her go, she’s exhausted. She's been through a lot.”

Despite an imminent third series having already been ruled out, fans will still be disappointed at the news as Waller-Bridge had previously stated “I have a fantasy of bringing Fleabag back when I’m 50".

The critically-acclaimed comedy ended with its second series in 2019. Waller-Bridge was feted with Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Writer and Outstanding Comedy Series. She was also the first Brit to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 38 years.

However, the writer did give some hope that the sitcom's team would reunite in the future. “But we’re all going to work together again, so there will be something of the Fleabag spirit to come back."

Last week it was revealed that Waller-Bridge would be joining co-star Andrew Scott for the second series of BBC and HBO’s His Dark Materials.

Based on the Philip Pullman fantasy trilogy of the same name, His Dark Materials follows the story of two children – Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry – as they wander through a series of parallel universes. Waller-Bridge will voice the osprey daemon of Will Parry's father, John Parry, who is played by Scott.
