NAKHON RATCHASIMA: The Moon and Chakkarat rivers have overflowed into the municipal area of Phimai district in this northeastern province after about two weeks of rain.
Kulno School in tambon Nai Muang of Phimai district, which is located next to the Phimai National Museum beside the Moon River, was 30-40 centimetres under water. The museum itself is still unaffected as it is located on higher ground.
Fortunately, the students were not affected as the flooding occurred during a school holiday. School Building No 3, a two-storey wooden structure with 16 classrooms, was inundated. Teaching equipment, desks, chairs, and file cabinets on the ground floor were damaged.
Danai Tangjerdja, the Phimai Municipality mayor, said people in low-lying areas have been told to move their belongings to higher ground.
A wall of sandbags has been built around the museum and Kulno School. Pumps will be installed to drain water out of the school, he said.
