Philly hero cracks hilarious Eagles joke after saving babies from a fire

Hakim Law will never pay for a drink or a cheesesteak in Philadelphia again.

Law, according to the Philly CBS station, happened upon a fire in West Philadelphia early Monday morning and rushed to helped those trapped inside try to escape.

“I seen a guy hanging out the window screaming that his kids was in there, things like that,” Law said. He explained that he entered the building through a back door but was met with smoke when he ascended the stairs. So he went back out to the street, then assisted with fire crews once ladders were raised.

“My man started throwing babies out the window,” Law went on. “We was catching ’em, unlike Agholor.”

According to newsradio KYW, 10 people were rescued around 2:15 in the morning. The station reports that six children were checked at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and are “okay.”

Hopefully the families displaced have safe places to go and will be able to return to their homes soon. This is not meant to make light of their pain.

But about that quip …

“Unlike Agholor.”

Legendary. Instantly so.

Somewhat savage, but mostly hilarious.

But also … kinda impressed this guy had the wherewithal to go from valiant rescuer to WIP caller with whiplash-inducing quickness. Philly forever.

Nelson Agholor, of course, is an Eagles receiver. On Sunday, in a loss to the visiting Lions, he had a crucial drop and a bad fumble in the second quarter (but he also had an exhilarating 20-yard TD catch and run during which he spun away from three tacklers).

That followed his drop of a pivotal, perfect pass last weekend late in a loss to the Falcons (though he also hauled in a pass in traffic to convert a 4th-and-14 and keep a last-ditch drive alive.)

Agholor, who leads the Eagles with 18 receptions and 3 touchdowns, has been inconsistent his entire career. And he’s currently trying to fill the role of No. 1 receiver with both Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson out. He’s far better suited to play a complementary role — a fact so clear that Hakim Law felt the need to vent on it in the wake of a nearly devastating tragedy that he heroically helped to avert.

Also, Agholor’s “mishaps,” as Law called them, are something only Eagles fans can joke about. Know that. My guess is that if you’re a Giants or Cowboys or Redskins fan and you try to come at Hakim Law with Agholor jokes it’s not going to be taken kindly — and all of Philly will be on his side.
