Phillips Idowu might be the most unlikely looking athlete at the Olympic Games in Beijing, but the fire-engine red hair and multiple facial piercings of the 6ft 4in triple-jumper from Hackney cannot obscure the fact that Idowu is now British athletics' best hope for an Olympic gold medal in Beijing.
