Phillips aims high for Port's AFLW debut

AFLW superstar Erin Phillips is putting no ceiling on what newcomers Port Adelaide can achieve in their debut season.

The competition's most decorated player made the switch from powerhouse Adelaide after two league best-and-fairests and three premierships with the Crows after her former club's grand final win in April.

Normally a star crossing from the Crows to Port would be filled with controversy but no one could begrudge Phillips the opportunity to play for the club her father Greg is a legend at.

The 37-year-old will captain Port in their first season and debut game against last season's wooden spooners West Coast on Saturday.

"You want to win, we're all competitors, we all want to win," Phillips told AAP of the Power's debut season expectations.

"We obviously know we're a young team but we're going to just compete as hard as we can and play a brand that supporters and members and fans will love to come out and watch.

"Hopefully with that comes success, so we're always going to have high goals."

Port appear to be the best-placed of the four expansion teams with coach Lauren Arnell developing a young and exciting list.

"I've only ever played against her, now she's my coach," Phillips said of Arnell.

"Her footy knowledge is incredible, her care and investment for not just our team but the club in general.

"She's just upbeat and always positive so it's just great to have her and she's training us to have that competitive edge that she had as a player (at Carlton and the Brisbane Lions)."
