Phillip Schofield warns of 'holiday horror story' after friends defied rules

Phillip Schofield has opened up about how his friends defied lockdown rules to go on holiday - but may have severely regretted it.

The 58-year-old presenter appeared on This Morning with co-host Holly Willoughby today as they spoke to Hays Travel owners John and Irene Hays.

Phil went onto speak about his friends who had gone on holiday but "shouldn't have".

"They went to the airport, perfectly fine, had a lovely experience in the airport because it was completely empty.

"Got on the plane, not a very full plane. Got to where they were going, empty beaches. It was all very lovely.

"And then you read stories that if you are prepared to stick out and go against the regulations, when you get to places like Turkey you'll be charged £43 for a kebab, £22 for pita bread and £65 to swim in the sea!"

Travel journalist Simon Calder responded that potential travellers would have to be weary about additional charges when they get to resorts.

"Those stories have been doing the rounds," he replied. "Of course it always comes back to 'buyer beware'.

"In the past there have been £50 ice creams in Rome and £100 pizzas in Venice.

"You've got to check the menu. If it's a new place and you don't know it - if they don't give a menu with prices on then be aware of that."
