Phillip Schofield tries to avoid shaking Boris Johnson's hand due to coronavirus

Boris Johnson appeared on Thursday's episode of This Morning but didn't receive the warmest of welcomes from host Phillip Schofield.

The Prime Minister appeared on the ITV show to speak about the nationwide concern surrounding coronavirus as the number of cases climbs, as well as the allegations against Home Secretary Priti Patel, but also took the time to discuss his partner Carrie Symonds' pregnancy , albeit it rather unwillingly.

And speaking of coronavirus, Phillip admitted that he deliberately left his hands by his side to see what the PM would do.

Phillip said: "You came straight in here and I kept my hands by my side to see what would happen and you shook my hand."

The Prime Minister replied: "I’ve been going round hospital as you can imagine and always shake hands. People make their own decisions. Washing them is the key."

When Phillip asked if he had washed his hands before the handshake, Holly replied: "He definitely washed after."

Phillip's move came after Boris announced he'd still be shaking hands, while speaking at the launch of the UK's battle plan to treat coronavirus.

He announced: "I was at a hospital the other night where I think a few there were actually coronavirus patients and I shook hands with everybody, you'll be pleased to know, and I continue to shake hands."

The Prime Minister was quizzed by Phillip and Holly on how he was feeling about partner Carrie Symonds' pregnancy, specifically if he would be changing some nappies when the baby arrived.

He responded: ""I'm not going to...obviously I-I-I...."

After Holly interrupted shouting "give it a go, give it a go, it's all part of the experience" the PM conceded "I expect so."
