Phillip Schofield thanks DOI crew for support when he came out as gay in moving speech

Phillip Schofield has thanked his Dancing On Ice crew for their support when he came out as gay earlier this year while the show was being filmed.

The presenter took the mic and made a heartfelt speech at the ITV show's wrap party after Joe Swash was crowned winner last night.

Phil, 57, hosts the show alongside his This Morning partner Holly Willoughby - who helped him come out in an touching interview following his Instagram post announcing his sexuality.

Discussing this time in his speech, Phillip said: “From that moment on we were cool, we were OK and you were amazing and we were a team and we loved each other and you gave me exactly what I needed at exactly the right time.”

“Even if it was just walking past someone I had never seen before or met before or been introduced, and they would look up and give you a smile and that's what our team is all about."

He went on to call his team "my family" in the video obtained by The Sun .

Phillip was also joined by his actual family - daughters Ruby, 24, and Molly, 27, and his wife Stephanie Lowe, who he has said has been incredibly supportive during his coming out.

Phil and Stephanie have been married for nearly 27 years, and he called her the "kindest soul" in his Instagram post.

He also thanked his This Morning team for their support, writing: "At ITV, I couldn't hope to work with more wonderful, supportive teams.

"Every day on This Morning, I sit in awe of those we meet who have been brave and open in confronting their truth - so now it's my turn to share mine."

Phillip and Holly were forced to apologise on the show today when actress Miriam Margoyles swore live on air.

She was discussing her latest TV series and her thoughts on body image and obesity, when she said she was "p****d off".

Phillip and Holly immediately turned to the camera as their guest continued to talk, both pulling a face.

They then mouthed "sorry" in unison, before carrying on with the interview.
