Phillip Schofield tells off Matthew Wright as he comes under fire for comments about Friends stars

Phillip Schofield was quick to hit back at Matthew Wright on This Morning before he came under fire from viewers.

The presenter was back on screen on Thursday alongside Holly Willoughby.

The pair were joined on the ITV show for daily segment, This Morning's View, and today they were joined by Matthew and Julia Hartley-Brewer.

Among the news stories the panel discussed today was the release of the long-awaited Friends reunion trailer.

Jenifer Aniston shared the first look at the HBO Max special on Wednesday night.

The Rachel Green actress has reunited with David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox and Matt Le Blanc have joined back together - 17 years since they all left Monica's apartment for the last time.

As Phillip admitted that he "can't wait", Holly agreed: "Oh it’s gonna be so good!"

But Matthew then waded in and said: "You can see who’s been eating all the pies can’t you?"

The hosts appeared stunned by the comment before Phillip blasted: "Stop judging people so horribly!"

He then shouted: "Look at your bloody ponytail," in reference to Matthew's lockdown mullet.

Matthew took it in good humour before attempting to redeem himself by adding: "I still fancy Lisa Kudrow. Lisa is still absolutely beautiful, looks untouched by surgeon’s hands which only adds to her appeal."

"Oh you are a shocker!" Phillip then said to him, before moving on with the reunion talk.

Matthew had his say on the Friends stars (ITV)

Viewers, however, were less than impressed.

"#ThisMorning lovely bit of body shaming from Matthew Wright. Not something to laugh at, it’s something to correct. Millions of viewers, don’t let any of them think it’s acceptable," tweeted one.

Another said: "Matthew Wright body shaming 2 people within 2 minutes on @thismorning... Not cool! #ThisMorning."

"@thismorning @ITV @Schofe @hollywills oh great @Matthew_Wright who regularly talks about his mental health struggles- decides to fat shame a Friends cast member "can see who ate all the pies" - shameful #ThisMorning #MentalHealthMonth," a third fumed.
