Phillip Schofield tells Holly Willoughby to 'get back' as she gets too close on This Morning set

This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby broke social distancing guidance live on air during today's show.

Some viewers have called for the popular star to be "sacked".

In a segment focusing on science experiments, This Morning hosts Holly and Phillip Schofield were at opposite ends of a desk while trying to complete a range of tasks set by scientist, Zoe.

The presenting team have been able to continue working on the hit morning show by adhering to the government's social distancing guidelines and staying two metres apart from one another.

During the experiment, Holly was excited when she managed float a bent paperclip in a bowl of water.

When Phil struggled and said he couldn't do it, Holly marched over to him to try and help.

Phil moved away from her and told her "don't be so close", telling her to "get back, get back".

Looking sheepish, Holly gasped and headed back to her side of the desk as she said: "Of course, two metres."

Phil added: "Get back to your corner."

On Twitter, viewers were quick to spot the slip up.

Dave said: "Gotta love live TV going wrong".

Stephen added: "TWO METRES HOLLY!! TWO METRES!! #ThisMorning "

Another viewer commented: "Holly will be made to apologise for that distancing breach".

Shaun said: "Oh dear @hollywills ".

And another fan joked: "Holly just broke social distancing sack her [laughing emoji]".

But some viewers called for people to be more forgiving.

Carl said: "Oh have a day off you lot, simple [lapse] by Holly, the amount if people that will forget social distancing when lock down ends anyway, it goes against human nature".

*This Morning airs on ITV each weekday from 10.30am
