Phillip Schofield tells Government to "shut up" as he accuses experts of piling bad news on public

Phillip Schofield raged at Government experts to "shut up!" as he accused them of piling bad news on the public at a time when everyone is struggling.

On Sunday it was reported that the Government were coming under increasing pressure to make lockdown restrictions even stricter.

Tightening of restrictions could mean curfews, nurseries being closed, support bubbles being banned, the public told to wear masks outside and exercise limited to one hour.

The rumours were a hot topic on Monday's This Morning when Phillip and co-host Holly Willoughby were joined by guests Matthew Wright and Julia Hartley-Brewer.

And, after having had a go at Professor Chris Whitty over 'bleak' predictions for this Christmas, Phillip took aim at the Government, saying "we can only take too much."

He began: "One of the things that made me really angry is we as a nation, as a world are suffering.

"We can only take so much. A human being can only take so much bad news. We're all mostly complying, we are all hunkering down. We are all hoping we are protecting the people we love around us; if you are indeed seeing them, many of us are not seeing anyone at all.

"I'm lucky to be coming to work and then I have people at the top like Chris Whitty, the SAGE team and health experts saying 'yeah it is possible we might have this next Christmas as well."

Becoming increasingly frustrated, Phillip added: "I just want to say shut up with your bad news!

"We're all dealing with this now as it stands. I don't want anymore! We'll deal with that later; you can't keep piling bad news on top of us.

"Yes, we want to be realistic and know facts and figures, but let's get through this before you tell us how rubbish life's going to be in potentially 12 months time."

Addressing, Professor Whitty's prediction about winter 2021 last week, Phillip ranted: "You've got to manage the bad news, we are dealing with lockdown now and all the mental health issues, the financial issues that that brings."

"Let us cope with this before you tell us that next winter, there may still be problems.

"Tell us later, after the summer, 'Ooh this may be creeping back again', don't give it to us all in one go."
