Phillip Schofield tells angry Line of Duty fans 'it's tough' after major spoiler

Phillip Schofield caused controversy by telling angry Line of Duty fans "it's tough" after a massive spoiler was dropped on today's This Morning.

The presenter was unsympathetic towards anyone watching that had missed Sunday night's explosive episode.

Phillip incurred the wrath of Line of Duty fans by speaking about a major character's shock cliffhanger death.

Co-host Holly Willoughby, "I'm up to date but there will be many people watching this who aren't up to date so we probably need to be a little bit careful. Don't we?"

But Phil was having none of it and claimed "it's tough" as people should have watched Sunday's installment by now.

Showbiz reporter Kem Cetinay introduced an exclusive video message from Line of Duty star Rochenda Sandall.

The actress, who plays OCG member Lisa McQueen, teased who had died during the clip.

She said: "I just wanted to say it was an absolute pleasure to be part of an iconic television moment on Sunday and it was amazing to get to work with Stephen Graham and the whole crew at Line of Duty.

"It was really hard to keep everything a secret as you can imagine but now I get to come and talk to you guys about it which I'm really looking forward to."

Kem asked the presenters who they were backing to be revealed as they mysterious 'H'.

Phillip and Holly said Superintendent Ted Hasting was the obvious choice, but Kem suggested it could be lawyer Gill Biggeloe, imprisoned Roz Huntley or even DI Kate Flemming.

Phil said: "There's going to be a side swipe on this."

The presenters then spoke about a mysterious new character, played by Anna Maxwell Martin, who will be pivotal in the final two episodes.

Detective Chief Superintendent Patrica Carmichael will join the team in the hunt for 'H'.

Phillip said: "I know for sure Anna Maxwell is going to join the cast on Sunday and I think this is a very important signing."
