Phillip Schofield stopped Dancing On Ice rehearsals for emotional moment after coming out as gay

It has been revealed Phillip Schofield stopped the Dancing On Ice rehearsals to have an emotional moment with his colleagues about coming out as gay.

According to professional skater Matt Evers, Schofield stopped production behind the scenes during rehearsals to make the announcement.

The Mirror Online reports that Schofield was then embraced by Evers and four other celebrities in a very heart-warming moment.

Phillip opened up about his sexuality to dear friend and fellow co-presenter Holly Willoughby last Friday (February 7) on This Morning after posting a touching statement on his Instagram story.

"With the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay," Phil said on Instagram.

Discussing the moment Schofield came out as gay during Dancing On Ice rehearsals, Evers told Heart.co.uk: "It was a really nice atmosphere in the studio. I think at one point in rehearsals he kind of stopped production and said, 'OK I just need to say this, I don't want to be the elephant in the room any more, if you want to give me a hug, give me a hug'.

"He was very sensitive to viewers at home as well and he kinda wanted to get that out in dress rehearsal before we were live and it was a really nice moment.

"Holly teared up and there was about five or six of us that were stood around him."

Dancing On Ice continues at 6pm on ITV1 this weekend.
