Phillip Schofield slammed for 'tasteless' joke about Alzheimer's sufferers using Viagra

This Morning fans are not happy with host Phillip Schofield after he made an 'insensitive' joke about Alzeimher's sufferers taking Viagra.

The presenter, 59, was talking about the latest health news with GP Dr Nighat Arif when he made the quip, which didn't go down well with viewers.

After revealing Viagra may help people with Alzheimer's, which is a type of dementia that affects memory, Phil said: "So they could remember they've left the door open but can't get close enough to close it."

Fans were fuming with the father-of-two's comment, with one tweeting: "I usually like you, but I just saw you make a joke about Viagra having a potential cure on Alzheimer's 'so you can remember to answer the door, but can't get close enough to open it' Please don't joke insensitively!"

Another said: "There are just some things you don't make jokes about. It's such a terribly cruel disease."

A third wrote: "Now mocking Alzheimer's…the bloke is an absolute fool! And that's me being polite!"

While a fourth fumed: "As someone who's mother had dementia I wasn't impressed. Any drug breakthrough for that horrendous disease is welcome."

However others didn't see the problem with what Phil said, with one writing: "Loved the joke Phil" while another teased: "She swerved that cheeky joke nicely then Phil!".

The furore comes after the Dancing One Ice presenter was under fire yesterday for making a joke about dyslexia.

Asking former health secretary Matt Hancock about his extramarital liaison he said: "Was it your dyslexia that meant you misread social distancing rules?"

Matt was caught in a clinch with lobbyist Gina Coladangelo against the door of his Whitehall office in June - while telling the country to social distance.

Phil's fans didn't appreciate the joke with one tweeting: "What is Phillip's problem? Totally unncessary and disrespectful behaviour towards people with Dyslexia."

While another said: "Horrible and disgusting by @Schofe. My 8-year-old struggling with his education due to #Dyslexia and to use this for clickbait #ThisMorning."

The Mirror has contacted Phillip's reps for comment.

This Morning is on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
