Phillip Schofield shows reality of night before ITV This Morning return

Phillip Schofield has shared the reality of working on This Morning. The presenter is set to return to the ITV daytime show on Monday (September 5) following a long summer break.

He and co-host Holly Willoughby have spent weeks off air after heading off on their annual summer holiday back in July. In their absence, the hosting duo have been replaced by a whole host of famous faces.

This has included Rochelle Humes, Josie Gibson and Vernon Kay. And in that time viewers also gave a big welcome back to Ruth Langsford who took to the helm with 'TV son' Rylan Clark.

Prior to their on-screen return, Holly and Phillip enjoyed an early reunion before they got back in front of the cameras. Holly, 41, was the first to share a snap of the duo, beaming for the camera.

"Well look who came over for a play date before school starts… " the mum-of-three penned alongside the snap to her millions of followers. She then added: "See you on Monday @schofe @thismorning … I’ve missed you!!!!! Can’t wait to see you all!!!!"

Phillip, 60, also shared the photo of the pair with his own millions of followers but let them in on a little worry he has before he gets back to work next week. First, he gushed: "Now that was fun!! The best day with my bestie [heart emojis] love you to bits @hollywilloughby."

But he then added: "Let’s see how well I can read an autocue on Monday with a dilated pupil." And Holly was quick to joke in response: "I might be able to see it but I still cant read it!" It comes after Phillip underwent two procedures during the summer to rid the floaters from his eyes.

Despite his concern, Phillip spent Sunday night (September 4) getting ready for her wake-up call. And taking to his Instagram Story, the TV star showed the reality of working on the popular show and just how early he has to get up.

"Here we go, back to work, summer is done and the alarms are set," he penned over a screenshot of his alarms. It showed the earliest as being 4.15am with a few in between before we get to 5.30am which is set for Monday to Thursday, the days he appears on This Morning.

But making sure he doesn't oversleep, he set another for 5.50am giving him an extra 20 minutes snooze if he's lucky. "Early bird," a gif read over the screen as he shared the post alongside The Boo Radleys track, Wake up Boo!

Phillip hasn't been too active on social media during his summer break but did give his followers a few updates, particularly when he headed for two procedures on each of his eyes. The dad-of-two worried fans when she shared a photo of himself with a bandaged eye to Instagram.

However, he explained: "Finally got the INCREDIBLY frustrating 'floaters' sucked out of my left eyeball," adding the eyes emoji for good measure. He later explained that he had undergone 'Elective limited pars plana vitrectomy surgery'.

He was quick to tell his followers: "Firstly, no part of my treatment and surgery was gifted and I wasn’t asked to post. It is also pioneering and costly." And last week, he returned to social media to share how he'd also had the procedure done on his other eye.
