Phillip Schofield says 'who knows' if Dancing On Ice will return on Sunday

Philip Schofield has admitted that Dancing On Ice may well not return live on air next Sunday amid fears over its future.

The ITV show’s host, 58, has cast doubt on whether the show will make a return this season after a string of stars were forced to pull out due to injuries.

While the competition is due to return on Sunday, February 28, Phillip isn’t convinced that it will go ahead after Jason Donovan was the latest contestant to quit following an injury on the ice.

The presenter said "who knows" whether it will be back as co-host Holly Willoughby urged him to be positive on Monday’s instalment of This Morning.

As the pair discussed whether the competition would return next week, Phillip insisted that he was being ‘realistic’ in thinking it might not make a comeback.

He explained: "Hopefully we are up and running with that next week, with a bit of luck, I mean, but who knows?"

Meanwhile, Holly looked on the positive side of the situation and urged her co-star to do the same.

"It will be, it'll be fine, let's remain positive I think," she assured.

It comes as Jason is the seventh star, and fifth celebrity, to pull out of this year's disastrous series after suffering from back problems.

The former Neighbours star said that he is "devastated and gutted" after being forced to quit in what he dubbed a "nightmare" situation.

Following his exit, it means that there are only five celebrities remaining in the competition - making a final with three stars impossible at the moment.

ITV bosses may now have to make drastic adjustments to the series in order for it to run in full, or else, they will need to shorten it.

Alternatively, the ITV show could introduce another break or even pull the final forward.
