Phillip Schofield says talking about his sexuality 'saved him'

Phillip Schofield has said that finally talking about his sexuality 'saved him'.

The This Morning star come out as gay after 27 years of marriage earlier this year during an emotional chat with friend and co-host Holly Willoughby.

Phil has now opened up about how speaking out helped him in a poignant post online.

The 58-year-old made his comment on Twitter as he backed a fundraising campaign by a mother who lost her son to suicide.

He re-shared a post from Alison Watson whose son Morgan tragically took his own life on May 17.

Phillip shared a link to Alison's JustGiving page who as she tries to raise money for mental health charity Guernsey Mind.

Phillip then said in response: "Another heartbreaking story. There is strength in talking.

"Please don’t try to fight your head on your own. Talking saved me #bekind #talk".

Alison said on the fundraising page: "We are heartbroken at his loss and have started this fundraising page in the small hope that we can prevent others suffering as we are losing someone they love as we love Morgan so much.

"Our hearts are breaking. Talking to whoever is so important for everyone, especially young men."

Prior to appearing on This Morning with Holly, Phillip posted a heartfelt statement where he told fans and viewers he is "coming to terms with the fact I am gay".

He then went on to tell Holly, 38, about the struggles he had faced and told how he had received love and support from his family.
