Phillip Schofield's savage comeback after Amanda Holden feud claims

Phillip Schofield has savagely hit back after being accused of by standing in the way of her This Morning presenting role.

The veteran TV host, 57, took to Twitter late on Sunday to blast claims he branded Amanda "difficult to manage" and, in doing so, 'denied' her the chance to progress on daytime TV.

Of course, it hasn't hampered her prime time telly slots, as Amanda has been working as a Britain's Got Talent judge for years.

"The end of another really sad weekend," Phil wrote to his followers.

"When you try for 35 years to be the easiest, most fun person to work with and you read such hurtful and wildly untrue stories from nameless 'sources'. Obviously I'll take it on the chin.. I just hope you know me better."

One follower pointed out that it was "quite the accusation to make as Schofe comes across as the perfect gent".

Silver fox Phil replied saying, "How much of that do you think is true?" and adding two laughing crying emojis.

Amanda is yet to comment on the claims, which stemmed from a TV executive telling the Sun that Schofield 'blocked Amanda's chances' of being his co-host in Holly Willoughby's absence when she was in the I'm A Celebrity jungle last year.

Heart FM breakfast DJ Amanda reportedly took her concerns to ITV boss Kevin Lygo, with a former daytime TV executive revealing that "Phillip actively campaigned for Rochelle Humes to get the job despite Amanda being more experienced".

This was despite it being alleged that Amanda had been told in private that "she'd got the gig".

The TV executive went on to reveal that Amanda "feels Phil unfairly used his powers of persuasion".

It has been reported that Amanda was told that Rochelle had been given the role "because she was easier to 'manage' on air".

These concerns were apparently raised to Lygo last September and another female ITV star has allegedly complained about Schofield's "unreasonable actions".

The former executive went on to reveal that Schofield is seen as "the king of daytime TV," and is "utterly untouchable".

They added that "things are increasingly toxic when the cameras stop rolling", and that there are some in ITV who are "secretly delighted that things are starting to emerge".

Amanda used her Heart FM show to have a dig at the This Morning presenter earlier this month.

She told her listeners that the three things she wouldn't like to find in her home were "spiders, flies and Phillip Schofield".

And it comes amid rumours that life behind the scenes on This Morning has become increasingly fraught because of Phil's jealousy over Holly.

Golden girl Holl was photoshopped with a crown on a recent magazine cover, while Phillip was shot looking grumpy - and the result is said to have left the Schofe raging.

However, Holly attempted to smooth things over last weekend by posting a Father's Day tribute to her co-host, telling fans: "Talking of important men in my life on Fathers Day. Here's another one. My partner on the telly and one of my best friends in the world... love you @schofe ."

ITV said in a statement: "Presenter line-ups on This Morning change regularly. Final decisions are made by producers, not presenters.

"Phillip is a much-loved broadcaster and part of the ITV family. He's a consummate professional.

"Amanda is also held in high regard as a judge on one of our biggest shows."

*This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV
