Phillip Schofield's mum gave hilariously blunt response when he came out a year ago

It's twelve months tomorrow since This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield came out to Holly Willoughby on the TV sofa.

And Phillip, who had just minutes earlier released a heartfelt message on social media saying he was gay, broke down admitting that Holly, his wife Steph and their two daughters gave him the support he needed.

During their chat Phillip also explained that he had broken the news to his mum, Pat who given him a pretty blunt answer.

Although straightforward, her response was pretty amusing.

Phillip, who had travelled to Cornwall especially to tell his mum the big news, said: "My mum has been on the phone all morning. I went down to see her in Cornwall."

When Phillip then broke the news to his mum, she said: 'Oh ok, well I don’t care.'"

Phillip was amused by the simple yet loving response. and also told of the support he'd received from his wife and two children.

In a statement he said: "Steph has been incredible - I love her so very much. She is the kindest soul I have ever met. My girls have been astonishing in their love, hugs and encouraging words of comfort.

"Both mine and Steph's entire families have stunned me with their love, instant acceptance and support.

"Of course they are worried about Steph, but I know they will scoop us both up. My friends are the best, especially Holly, who has been so kind and wise - and who has hugged me as I sobbed on her shoulder.

One year on Phillip has moved from his luxury family home in Oxfordshire into a swish bachelor pad in Chiswick, West London - and has written a book.

This Morning's presenters were left drooling with jealousy as they tuned into the Aussie chef Nico cooking up a storm for Tuesday's cooking segment (ITV)

The split has remained pretty amicable and during summer of last year Phillip and his family were still able to enjoy lots of BBQs and family time at their home.

While there are rumours of a divorce being on the cards at some point, Phillip revealed that the family were still a 'work in progress'.

"We are a work in progress," Phillip said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I've been very honest about all of this and there's no question, we have to pick our way through this daily as a family.

He added: "And that's what we are doing. We are making our way through very unusual and unexpected waters."
