Phillip Schofield's message of thanks to fans for their support at the end of an emotional day

TV presenter Phillip Schofield has thanked his fans for their messages of support after an emotional day in which he revealed he is gay.

The This Morning presenter also urged everyone to ‘talk to someone’, and said the support he had received had been ‘important’.

In an addition to his Instagram story - which began this morning with the statement explaining his sexuality and why he was announcing it today - he added a second statement this evening.

“You will never know how important your support has been today,” he said.

“I’ve read as much as I can. Please please, no matter your age or your thoughts, TALK to someone, don’t let your head beat you and hopefully you’ll find out that your friends and family have a remarkable ability to surprise you with their love and understanding. #bekind.”

The TV presenter made the initial post on his Instagram story this morning, just before appearing in his regular presenter slot with co-host Holly Willoughby on This Morning.

She read out his statement, and asked him a few questions in emotional scenes, as Schofield burst into tears as he opened up about being gay.

The presenter said he was being supported by his wife of 27 years, his two grown-up children and their wider family.
