Phillip Schofield's heartache as This Morning's dancing nursing home guest dies from coronavirus

A pensioner who charmed viewers on This Morning by dancing and singing in his care home, and holding up a sign saying 'Coronavirus can do one', has died after testing positive for the virus.

The death of the man, known just as John, when he appeared live from Dearnlea Nursing Home in Yorkshire, left host Phillip Schofield 'heartbroken'.

Lovable John appeared a couple of weeks ago when the ITV show linked up with the nursing home in Rotherham - and stole the show with a song and dance.

He had the presenters Phillip and Holly Willoughby in hysterics with his antics and his rendition of Penny Arcade.

Beaming Holly said: "That's what you want isn't it. A song and a dance."

The presenters burst out laughing as John continued to sing and dance in front of his fellow residents even after they cut away.

Holly said: "I'm telling you what, if you're in lockdown you want to be in lockdown with John."

But now, the news was broken to Phillip and Holly that John had passed away after testing positive with the virus.

Sadly, it was revealed by someone on Twitter that John had passed away after testing positive for COVID-19.

In a heartbreaking tweet, Phil was told: "@thismorning @Schofe @hollywills It’s with great sadness that John from Dearnlea Nursing Home has sadly passed away after testing positive for Covid-19.

"Please join our village in playing the song he sang on This Morning “Penny Arcade” at 7pm on Saturday."

An additional tweet said: "His family wanted to say thank you for making his dreams come true to sing on TV."

Phillip will not be appearing on This Morning next week due to the Easter Holidays but promised to pay tribute to John when he is back in the studio.

Phillip tweeted: "This is heartbreaking. Holly and I have a week off next week.

"We will pay John a proper tribute when we are back. Our love to all his family and friends."
