Phillip Schofield’s game show 5 Gold Rings 'axed by ITV over Covid-19 problems'

Phillip Schofield’s game show 5 Gold Rings has reportedly been axed by ITV.

The interactive game show that is fronted by the This Morning presenter and saw contestants place gold rings over images to select the correct answers to questions.

However, it seems that the show has ended after four series on the channel.

Now, the Daily Star reports that the game show will not be returning for further instalments, primarily due to the issues created for filming by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

A source told the paper: “It won’t be back on TV this autumn like it normally would and there are currently no plans to bring it back in the future.”

“This show has been a fantastic success for ITV, but the current climate has made things very tough indeed.

“TV production is extremely difficult while the virus is still around. That means some shows have to be dropped.”

The Mirror has reached out to ITV for comment on this story.

Thankfully for Phillip, he still has his popular game show The Cube to look forward to.

The host is currently on his summer break from This Morning, along with his co-presenter Holly Willoughby.

The pair are typically seen on the Monday to Thursday shows for the ITV morning series, with Allison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary fronting the Friday shows.

Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes are back to front the series for the summer shows after being replaced by Allison and Dermot for the Friday shows.

Earlier today, however, Eamonn joked that the show was focusing too much on "depression" when discussing 'nightmare neighbours' with agony aunt Deidre Sanders.

“That’s the problem with this show, it’s always depression and angriness and awfulness and rows and she is the purveyor of it all,” said a tongue-in-cheek Eamonn as he pointed at Deidre, “she comes in and spreads it all round there.”

A smiling Deidre shot back: “This is the problem phone-in, Eamonn”

“Mrs Misery, there,” joked Eamonn.

*This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am to 12.30pm on ITV with past episodes available on ITV Hub.
