Phillip Schofield refuses to get off his phone while driving around This Morning studio

Phillip Schofield sparked concern when he refused to get off his phone while driving.

The This Morning host filmed himself on his phone as he hopped behind the wheel of a branded van and drove around the ITV studio lot.

In UK law, a person is only committing an offence if they use their mobile phone while driving on a road or in a public place.

That means Phillip wasn't breaking any laws while filming his Snapchat video, but he still caused a bit of a stir.

Phillip was telling his fans that he's heading to Birmingham for This Morning Live and that he'd been wondering what the provided transport would be.

"We're in this, apparently," he said as he showed a branded 'This Morning Live' van behind him."

"And I'm driving," he adds.

After joking about "nudging" a Porsche out of the way, Phillip filmed himself driving, with his co-star Holly Willoughby in the passenger seat.

Phillip clarifies: "I'm on private property so I can film.

"I'm recording here whilst I'm driving."

A voice can then be heard shouting at Phillip through the window: "Excuse me, sir, don't drive and be on your phone."

But Phillip tells him: "Yeah, private property, mate, it's okay, I'm allowed to."

The star then asks pal Holly if she's impressed by his driving.

She says: "Honestly, anyone that can drive a manual I'm so impressed with, unless it's a go kart I can't drive it."

It was all just fun and games, but one fan who saw the video was concerned.

They told Mirror Online: "It’s an interesting one, Phillip blatantly uses his phone driving on private land, but us normal folk get six points and a £200 fine for paying for our McDonald's at the drive-thru using our phone."

A new law was recently introduced that means drivers could be fined if they're caught using their phone at a fast food drive-thru.

Penalties have come into force which could see drivers fined without realising they have committed an offence.

People seen holding their mobile phones while driving will be handed six penalty points and a £200 fine, Essex Live reported.

Previously the punishment was three points and a £100 fine.

Mirror Online has contacted Phillip's representatives for comment.
