Phillip Schofield reads out heartbreaking message to daughter Ruby on her birthday

This Morning host Phillip Schofield wished his daughter Ruby a happy birthday on Thursday's show as part of a segment with his co host Holly Willoughby and guest Vanessa Feltz on good news.

Phil gave the sweet message to Ruby, 25, and apologised that he was not able to see her due to the lockdown, as they do not live together.

Phil, who also shares Molly, 27, with wife Stephanie Lowe, moved out from the family home last year after he bravely came out as gay.

He said: "I am going to start, it's my daughter Ruby's birthday today, she has joined the lockdown birthday club."

Holly and Vanessa gushed: "Aww happy birthday, Ruby!"

Phillip continued: "Happy birthday, Ruby, sorry I can't see you, darling, but have a lovely day."

He also also posted a beautiful photograph of him and Ruby on his Instagram page, with the caption: "Welcome to the lockdown birthday club @Rubyschofe, Love you so much and happy birthday gorgeous."

During Phil's famous interview with Holly where he opened up about his sexuality after 27 years of marriage to Steph, he credited her and their daughters for their support.

In his initial Instagram post, he wrote: "You never know what’s going on in someone's seemingly perfect life, what issues they are struggling with, or the state of their well being – and so you won't know what has been consuming me for the last few years," he said.

"With the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay."

He added: "My girls have been astonishing in their love, hugs and encouraging words of comfort."

He also told Holly: "They are so amazing in their love and support.

"I sat them down and I told them, and they jumped up and gave me a big hug and then they hugged Steph and they said, ‘It’s okay'.

"We’ll always be a family. Always, us four, is what we call ourselves."
