Phillip Schofield rants 'shut up with your bad news' to 'people at the top'

Phillip Schofield has asked the 'people at the top' to 'shut up' during a rant on This Morning.

The ITV presenter and co-host Holly Willougby were discussing the latest news headlines on Monday's show, including the possibility of tougher restrictions.

It has been reported that the government is considering a range of options to toughen England's third national lockdown.

Professor Chris Whitty has also warned today that the 'worst point in the pandemic' is about to hit as coronavirus rates soar.

Discussing the prospect of tougher rules in the segment called This Morning's view, Holly and Phil were joined by Matthew Wright and Julia Hartley-Brewer.

But Phillip ranted: "One of the things that makes me really angry is that we are all as a nation, as a world, are suffering but let's think slightly smaller. It's just us today, it's me and you and you watching.

"A human being can only take so much bad news. We're all mostly complying, we're all hunkering down, we're all hoping we are protecting the people that we love around us if we are indeed seeing them and many of us are not seeing anybody at all - and I'm lucky enough to be coming to work.

"And then I have the people at the top, I have Chris Whitty and the Sage team and health specialists saying 'yeah, the possibility is that we might have this next Christmas as well'."

He continued: "I just want to say shut up with your bad news because we are all dealing with this now as it stands. I don't want anymore. I'll deal with that later.

"You can't keep piling bad news on top of us and yes we can't to be realistic and yes we want to know the facts and the figures but let's just get through this before you tell us how rubbish life's going to be in potentially 12 months time."

And his comments have divided viewers.

"Go Phillip! 'And i just want to say, Shut up with your bad news' Thank you! #ThisMorning," wrote one.

While another argued: "Phillip ..really please stop looking so angry! I am no Mathew fan but having lost my healthy brother to this disease yes we need to ALL stay at home!#ThisMorning."

It's not the first time Phillip has vented his frustrations about the long-term predictions.

He wasn't happy with Professor Whitty last week following his comments that the UK could face more restrictions next winter.
